I've got a suit from Mt. Since it's a team suit we were able to use a sizing kit. This was pretty important IMO. The fit of this suit is fantastic. It seems tight where it needs to be and gives you a bit of breathing room where needed. That said the PI could be faster as I have not done any formal testing. I can say with confidence the speed difference is small.

Post 13 of 36 views. The secret is to order your time trial skinsuit in a size smaller that you think you can fit into.
You want the thing to be tight so it doesn't wrinkle up when you wear it. Post 14 of 36 views. Post 15 of 36 views. Post 16 of 36 views. Post 17 of 36 views. My cycling team is also Castelli sponsored. Myself and a few others who really drive into the marginal gains just wear the BP 3.

Tour Cycling offers all the cycling attire to maximize on aerodynamic advantages. Tour Cycling offers sleeveless and short sleeved skin-suits that lie as flat against your body as does your skin. The fabric is lightweight, skin tight, silky and comfortable. The skin-suits have been rider and wind tunnel tested to maximize the aerodynamic lead the suits give to the riders who wear them. The chamois is designed to protect the rider in the time trial position as he is leaned forward on the time trial bars.
The Tour Cycling shorts have the same time trial specific chamois padding. The tops are sleeveless or with sleeves depending on the weather and rider preference. The SIDI shoes keep your feet cool and have a close fit so no power is lost in empty space between foot and shoe. Finally the helmets are varied between Lazer helmets which are straight out time trial helmets and the Kask Bambino helmets worn by Chris Froome when he won some of the biggest races in the world.

By subtracting the watts required to overcome drivetrain friction and rolling resistance we are left with the watts required to overcome air resistance — ie aero watts. In addition to the aero testing we wore the suits in a number of rides and time trials to see how they feel and perform in real world conditions.
Bioracer has a huge pedigree in time trial suits and claims to have won more time trial medals than any other brand since The fabrics employed have been chosen for their low drag qualities.
The fit is good and all our testers felt it was comfortable enough for longer time trials. Another nice detail is the inclusion of a Nopinz number pocket. The main advantage of this is not aerodynamic, but one of convenience and not damaging the suit with pinholes over time. The Speedwear Concept lives up to expectation too, with our testing suggesting it was on average the fastest on test.
Interestingly the suit also appeared to have a sweet spot, exhibiting the lowest CdA at 50kph. The black we have is a standard colour available through Nopinz, but there are custom options available too. This is the skinsuit that the Brother NRG cycling team have used since the beginning of Dan Bigham, Charlie Tanfield and Si Wilson were wearing the Velotec skinsuit when they broke the national mile team competition record in June with a combined time of The Velotec uses a similar pattern to the Endura and Bioracer suits, but the placing of the various fabric textures on the body is particularly fast for certain shapes and positions on the bike — possibly more by luck than by design.
The chamois is also Italian-made and is more than fit for purpose. For sizing, small means small. The Italian PowerLycra fabric Endura uses is of course placed so that the ribbed fabric is at the upper arm and side flank to turbulate the airflow in those crucial areas in order to keep it attached for longer. The Encapsulator is made to order; however, our suit was a standard medium size.
It is important to point this out, because we suspect customisation would most likely result in an improved fit and a faster suit. We found the fit to be very good around the arms and shoulders, but the chamois was not the most comfortable and I experienced excess fabric around the edge of the pad. Something I found distracting in longer events. With regard to aero testing the Encapsulator performed well and although third, was very close to the Velotec and Bioracer suits.
The new suit, which won a Eurobike award, is optimised for a time trial position at speeds between 46kph and 58kph, and boasts an aero version of Endura's 1,series pad, specifically shaped for an aggressive riding position. The Body Paint 3. On the rear there is a flap to cover the leading edge of your number, but there is no dedicated pocket, such as that on the Endura and Bioracer.
However, this was compared to a mass ordered team kit from Impsport I think and not compared to the Assos. The revolutionary skinsuits are at the cutting edge of cycling technology and have been credited with helping road riders to crucial wins e. This is a custom skinsuit made by Bio Racer. I believe they will be brining out a mass market skinsuit for the average rider too. It is used by Matt Bottrill and many top testers. Extensively tested in the Drag 2 Zero wind tunnel.
If you want to go faster in a time trial get a good skinsuit. Even small flaps can have big drag. That means for customisation either buying something expensive or getting a post purchase alteration. Hi great article. Any comments on whether covering legs and arms long sleeves and leg warmers or long legs helps.
My impression is that both help but rarely do I find cyclists doing both. It may not look much difference. But, you can see more wrinkles in the Dutch skinsuit left. Photo John the Scone British Cycling went to extraordinary lengths to gain marginal gains through producing the best possible skinsuit.
