A number of services can either be disabled or modified to run only when needed. Once you make these changes, the service no longer has to consume system resources and the system no longer has to spend time starting the service.
Windows 7 systems eventually begin to suffer under the weight of software that is installed in the normal course of business. Many software titles install more than is necessary and include helper applications designed solely to make the software start up more quickly or facilitate other communication e. And new software installations might add a permanent presence to the system tray, even if it's not absolutely necessary for the system to function Steam games, for example.
You could go through your system tool by tool and remove the offending software, but you might want to keep the underlying tool around and just prevent the helper from loading. This and more can be accomplished through the use of MSconfig, a tool that has long been a part of Windows. MSconfig allows you to selectively disable startup items and take other steps toward improving overall system performance. From the Startup tab Figure A , you can disable items.
Just be careful about what you choose. I've long felt that Microsoft's OEMs sometimes actively work against the Redmond behemoth and sully the company's name. Nowhere is this more evident than in the case of what has become known as "bloatware. Frankly, this is one of the reasons that I believe that Microsoft's Surface announcement, in which Microsoft noted that it would make its own device, is brilliant.
The company needs to start with a clean slate in some ways no pun intended. If your PC shipped with a bunch of stuff you'll never use, get rid of that software. If the software adds items to the startup process, getting rid of it will make the PC start faster and, ultimately, perform better overall. Many of the malware exited on my computer were detected and cleaned using this tool. This program will scan all areas of your computer and will clean and fix things like registry keys, temporary files, recycle bin, history and cookies etc.
All pretty much common sense to those of us who have been in the biz for too long however you would be surprised how many every day users haven't a clue! They are useful tips, can you suggest any good software which can perform such tasks on regular basis? These are all great tips and common sense to anyone beyond just average users, but it seems like this article only touches the surface. Dan Popescu. It is not available on devices with ARM64 processors. The slider will appear on a device only when the Balanced power plan, or any plan that is derived from Balanced, is selected. If a user upgrades from a version of Windows that does not support the slider, to a version that does, there will be no change to their High Performance, Power Saver, or "OEM Recommended" power plan.
These users will not see the slider UX, and they can still configure their power plans in the same way they could before upgrading. After the user changes to a Balanced performance plan, there is no way for them to go back to using the High Performance plan from the UI, although it is possible from the cmd line via powercfg.
If you ship a device with a High Performance power plan, such as a gaming device, consider applying the same settings that are defined on the High Performance plan to the Balanced power plan.
You can also customize power settings for each of the slider modes in your firmware. See Configure power settings and PPM options for more information. Game mode operates independently of the Windows performance power slider, and can be engaged in any slider mode. You can configure the default slider mode for both AC and DC. If a customer chooses a different slider mode on either AC or DC, their selection will become the new default setting. First, create a provisioning package using Windows Configuration Designer.
You will then edit the customizations. Use the XML file as one of the inputs to the Windows Configuration Designer command-line to generate a provisioning package that contains the power settings, then apply the package to the image. You can use overlays to customize the power settings and PPM options that are engaged for each slider mode. In previous versions of Windows, power settings could only be configured per power scheme, and PPM options could only be configured per power profile.
